Mechanical Engineering

William (Bill) D. Smith B.Sc. ENGINEERING has worked on the development of a variety of machinery and structures since the early 1980’s. This includes:

a) Agricultural tillage and seeding equipment
b) Agricultural Tractors – frames and associated components
c) Combine components
d) Grain storage structures
d) Heavy (Class 8) trucks and components – frames, cabs, attachments
e) Military vehicles, military trailers

Bill Smith has also set up and run (data acquisition) systems for acquiring base engineering data showing the operational characteristics of equipment, particularly equipment working in a field environment. These characteristics include:

1) Strain
2) Deflection
3) Shock (Acceleration)
4) Temperature
5) Pressure
6) Other transducers that give an electrical output signal

This data has been used to conduct lab testing to determine and improve durability of components.
